Alexandria Garden Club

Alexandria’s Garden Club has been in existence for at least 15 years. The students in the garden club have many duties, such as weeding, planting, harvesting, watering, and picking flowers. The students use a variety of tools, for example, shovels, pitchforks, rakes, and assorted hand tools to do their gardening. They observe and study insects and plants that are in the garden.

Some of the vegetables that have been planted in the garden are chard, tomatoes, corn, herbs, peppers squash, and flowers. There are also a variety of fruit trees in the garden such as, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon tree, lime, and orange. The passion flower vine produces passion flowers and passion fruit. During spring, butterflies are attracted to the passion vine, and thanks to them, the flowers are pollinated.

California’s State Flower, the Golden Poppy, also grows in the garden.  Alexandria’s Garden Club members observe and study  butterflies’ life cycle. Learning about composting is part of the learning process during the visit to the garden.

Alexandria’s Garden Club is a great place to learn about gardening and life science.
